axiotrax is built with AI at its foundation — not as a feature, but as the engine. It records your sailing, replays every moment, and puts an AI coach in your pocket that actually knows what happened on your water. Free to use. Genuinely powerful.

New to axiotrax? Start with the User Guide — the first page tells you what it does in four steps.
"No athlete reaches their potential without a coach."
Now every sailor has one.
SmartCoach · AI
SmartCoach doesn't give generic sailing advice. It reads your GPS track — every tack, every VMG split, every moment you gained or lost — then debriefs you the way a good dock coach would. Direct. Specific. Based on what actually happened.
"What happened to boat speed here?" "Was that tack worth it?" "Where did the upwind go wrong?" It knows the data. You ask the questions.
Coaches and clubs — we would rather build this with you
SmartCoach is for the boats you cannot be on. It is not trying to replace what you do on the dock; it is trying to make sure every boat in your fleet turns up to that conversation with the evidence already assembled.
If you run a program, we will shape the coaching to fit it — your language, your priorities, the things you drill and the order you teach them in. At no cost. We would rather learn how good coaches actually work than guess at it.
Personalized Coaching
Not every sailor needs the same debrief. Tell SmartCoach whether you're focused on boat speed and trim, or tactics and VMG — then add a note about what you're specifically trying to fix. The coach reads it, and it shapes every conversation. Not a script. Just context.
Speed & Trim
Heel, traveler, outhaul, sail shape — going as fast as possible. Coach leans here first.
Balanced
Follow the data and the question. Speed when speed matters. Tactics when tactics do.
Tactics & VMG
Shifts, laylines, favored side, positioning. Sailing in the right direction, not just fast.
Add a free-text note — "I tack too early at the mark" or "I lose pressure in dying breeze" — and the coach uses it to connect what it sees in your data to what you already know you're working on.
The app
Everything in one place — from the gun to the dock.
Curated Cohort · Pro
The hardest part of learning from a fleet was never the sailing — it was collecting everyone's tracks afterward. Cohorts kill that step. Pick the handful of boats you want to measure yourself against, go race, and their sessions show up on their own. No group chat, no AirDrop scramble, no "can you send me your file?"
That's the magic underneath: every boat's races live in that boat's own iCloud, and axiotrax quietly assembles your cohort view from the boats you follow. Nobody hosts the fleet. Nobody's data leaves their own account. You join once — and it keeps flowing, race after race.
Then SmartCoach goes to work across the whole group. Not you against a fleet average — you against the specific fast boats you chose. Where did the leader gain? Which side paid for the boat that beat you off the line? Ask, and it answers with the cohort's real tracks.
Learn from the best — not the bottom of the fleet.

Compare · Pro
You do not need a cohort for this one. Somebody sends you their race — a crew share, a Vakaros file, whatever they have — and you put it on the map next to yours. Ad hoc, one race at a time, nobody following anybody.
Play it back and axiotrax calls the advantage in boat lengths: who was ahead, by how much, and the moment it changed. That is usually a tack, and it is usually one nobody remembered afterwards.
SmartCoach is watching both boats now, so you can ask about the split, the cross, or the leg where it came apart. If you already follow boats in your cohort, their races show up here too.
Build it yourself
Your phone is already working out target speed, VMG and polar performance. This puts those numbers where you can read them at the helm, on a sunlight-readable reflective display you build yourself for about $55. Less per boat if you build a few.
Built with AI at its core
axiotrax is built with AI at its foundation — not bolted on as a feature. That means the app gets smarter, ships faster, and delivers more value every week.
Your AI coach reads every session — speed, VMG, every tack — and debriefs you like a dock coach would. Tell it what you're working on and it focuses there. Speed and trim, or tactics and VMG. You choose.
Record direct from iPhone with race countdown built in. Import from Garmin FIT or Apple Watch. Every session logged, heat-mapped, and searchable. Works how you already sail.
One tap renders your complete performance data onto your sailing footage. Speed, VMG, compass, track map — frame-precise. Pro users get clean branded export.
Simple Pricing
Most of what makes axiotrax powerful is free. Always. The paid tier adds AI coaching and branded video — the tools that make you measurably faster.

Under the hood
Most “AI features” are a chat window bolted onto an app. SmartCoach is the other way around — the coaching architecture came first, and it does four things no other sailing app does.
SmartCoach reconstructs the wind for your whole race — then asks one question before it critiques any decision: could you have known, at that moment? A correct call that got rolled by an unknowable shift gets credit, not blame.
Mid-conversation, the coach queries your actual GPS record — your tacks, your legs, your start — and answers with your numbers, not generic advice. You'll see it work: “Analyzing your tacks…”
Every coaching answer is checked against your real data — on your phone — before you see it. If the AI's claim doesn't match your GPS record, you see the correction, not the mistake.
Every tack gets a verdict against the reconstructed wind: KNOCKED — the breeze headed you, tacking was the right call. LIFTED — you were on the favored board and gave it away. Settle the argument before you reach the dock.
Patent pending The technology behind SmartCoach — hindsight-fair analysis, live data retrieval, on-device verification, and per-tack shift scoring — is patent-pending.
Works with Vakaros Atlas 2
Vakaros Connect shows you a track and a speed graph. axiotrax reads the same race — natively, via the open VKX telemetry format — and turns it into a full debrief. One tap in the share sheet is the entire integration.
Race a J/70? Your fleet already runs Atlas. Every race you've ever recorded is one tap away from a full AI debrief.
axiotrax founder Clay Babcock worked at Vakaros, so this importer was built by someone who knows the format well. Vakaros and Atlas are trademarks of Vakaros, Inc. axiotrax is an independent product.
Works With Your Watch
axiotrax works natively with both Garmin and Apple Watch — 1Hz GPS precision, frame-precise video sync, and the full SmartCoach debrief experience. Whichever watch is on your wrist.
Garmin
Every sailing or regatta activity logged on your Garmin is packed with race data — GPS coordinates, speed, and every maneuver at 1Hz. axiotrax reads the FIT file directly and syncs it frame-precisely to your footage. No Garmin Connect subscription required.
Apple Watch
axiotrax includes a purpose-built Apple Watch sailing app that brings the same 1Hz GPS data gathering and precision race-start countdown of a dedicated Garmin sailing watch right to your wrist. A configurable N-minute sequence, real-time sync adjustment, haptic countdowns, and GPS saved directly to Apple Health — imported into axiotrax with zero extra steps.
Live Instruments · Pro
Wind is your horsepower. You use it, seek it out, manage it — turn every shift to your advantage. axiotrax already uses next-level intelligence to infer wind, learn the conditions you race in, and build that context into every coaching conversation. It does a great job.
But what if it actually knew your wind — second by second? Everything would go to the next level.
Connect a wind source and axiotrax sees the live signal directly — wind speed, direction, and angle measured on your boat, not modelled from a weather grid. Your polars come to life, and every coaching insight is grounded in exactly what the wind was doing at that moment. There are two ways to feed it, from a full instrument network to a single wireless sensor on your mast.
This is coaching in the AI age.
Actisense W2K-2 — NMEA 2000 to Wi-Fi gateway.
Plug it in. axiotrax does the rest.
Two ways to feed axiotrax your live wind
Already have masthead wind instruments? Add a small NMEA 2000 Wi-Fi bridge like the Actisense W2K-2, and axiotrax reads your boat's true wind speed, direction, and angle straight off the network. Nothing to calibrate — it's already dialed in.
No instruments? Mount a Calypso Ultrasonic wind sensor at the masthead. It's solar-powered with no moving parts to break, and it streams wind to axiotrax over Bluetooth — which fuses it with your GPS to ground every reading in true wind. Nothing to wire, nothing to power.
Either way, the signal lands in the same place: live on your map, saved with every session, and in front of SmartCoach for every debrief.
New features,
weekly.
axiotrax is built with AI assistance — which means what used to take months ships in days. Decades of sailing domain knowledge, accelerated by AI. The app you download today will be meaningfully better in 30 days.
On the roadmap
axiotrax ships fast because the tools match the ambition. The data is already in your GPS track — we're building every way to see it.
Deep analysis of every tack and gybe — speed loss, recovery time, distance lost. See exactly where your maneuvers are costing you. Visualized.
Coming SoonWind shifts visualized across your race. See how the breeze moved, which tacks paid, and how well you played the shifts. All from your GPS.
Coming SoonApproach angle, timing quality, speed at gun. Everything that determines how your race begins.
Coming SoonOne logbook · every screen
Finish a race on your iPhone and it's already on your iPad and your Mac — no cables, no exporting, no thinking about it. axiotrax syncs your whole logbook through iCloud, and it runs natively on Apple silicon Macs. The phone is the recorder. The big screen is the debrief room.
Now on iPad
The iPad version of axiotrax is designed for the larger screen — not just scaled up. Your GPS track fills the right panel while your data, overlay controls, and SmartCourse analysis scroll on the left. Everything visible. Nothing hidden.
See it in action
Not a speed readout stuck in the corner. axiotrax renders the whole performance picture — how fast you were going, how well that compared to what the boat should do, where the wind actually was, and where you sat on the course — locked frame-precisely to your GPS track. Every knot, every tack, every mark rounding. Export to Photos in seconds.
Finish Line
Boat powered up. Trim dialed. A busy fleet all around you and the finish line dead ahead. axiotrax locks speed, compass, and VMG to every frame — so when you relive that approach, every number is exactly where it was. The kind of sailing worth remembering.
Crossing Fleets
You're on the upwind leg, mid-course — and another fleet is bearing down under full kite. axiotrax has the whole picture: your speed, your angle, exactly how the cross played out. The kind of moment that makes a great debrief even better.
SmartCourse powers the overlay. axiotrax knows which leg of the race your video is from — windward, leeward, reach — and updates the race leg indicator automatically as the footage plays. No manual tagging. No chapter markers. It just knows.
The beta is open

About axiotrax
axiotrax was built by Clay Babcock — with decades in marine navigation and a passion for making sailing data genuinely accessible. That experience is embedded in every feature: what data matters on the water, how racers actually think, what a coach would actually say. Now accelerated by AI.
The same AI that coaches sailors inside the app also helps build axiotrax — new features ship weekly because the tools match the ambition.
axiotrax is a product of axiotrax LLC, a Minnesota limited liability company.
